This is the best time to head to Arugambay to conquer the terrific waves. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced surfer, there is a surfing point for everyone. The geographic features, weather patterns and the oceanic conditions, provide great waves, thus making Arugambay one of the best surfing destinations in the worlad. The laid-back lifestyle and beachside vibe of this coastal destination draws you into a different world, where time stands still.

As dawn breaks, surfers head to the ocean, almost in a hypnotic state drawn by the call of the waves. After a quick warm up, they wade into the water and as the wave approaches in one quick movement they stand on the surfboard and ride the wave in rhythmic motions to completion. Even if you are not a surfer, merely watching the action from the beach is an experience itself.

Catch the waves at the five best points and get your surf on!

Lighthouse

Lighthouse Point, in Komari gets its name because of the actual lighthouse located on this stretch. The drive from the main road is a bit of a long one, however it is a journey through scenic landscape and villages that ends at this point. The sea here is quite rough and the waves are ideal for experienced surfers only.

Whisky Point

Situated in Urani, Whisky Point is ideal for the beginners and amateurs. However, depending on the swell of the waves the more experienced surfers too can get a good work-out. A small rock outcrop is the landmark for this point. The seawater swirls around the rocks and emerges from beyond thus creating a unique spot for surfing and swimming too.

Pottuvil Point, which is just a short distance away has stronger waves and is more suitable for experienced surfers.

Arugambay Point

Arugambay Point is also known as the main point for surfing. The waves are stronger and larger. This is for the surfing pros. Giant waves rise and crash as experienced surfers deftly ride the thrilling waves with great skill and technique. Baby Point is a small cove adjacent to the main point and is ideal to just paddle and relax in the sea.

Peanut Farm

Peanut Farm, which is located on the way to Panama, is a short drive through wilderness and if you are lucky you may spot an elephant. Sandy roads and palu trees suddenly open up to the beautiful ocean and natural pond. Peanut Farm too is ideal for beginners and amateurs.

Elephant Rock or Crocodile Rock

This point derives its name from the rock outcrops that resemble an elephant and crocodiles. At first it is a bit difficult to determine the way, a small footpath through scrubs lead to the face of the large boulders, which has to be climbed over to reach the surfing point. The view from this outcrop is beautiful, almost surreal. The pristine waves at Elephant Rock/Crocodile Rock are great for beginners.

Travelling across the area, it is apparent that the distinct landscape and oceanic conditions entail beautiful untouched beaches, wherever you go. As dawn turns to dusk, and dusk to night, the twinkling lights of Arugambay turn on. The entire place takes on a dreamlike atmosphere.

While you may visit the South-Eastern coast to surf, there is much more to do; wildlife, history, music and dancing, take your pick.

Though May to November is when most visitors travel to Arugambay, this coastal hub offers something for everyone all year round. Arugambay is definitely the best destination to enjoy your holidays.
