SriLankan Airlines enhances connectivity between New Delhi and Colombo
August 2019

SriLankan Airlines commenced 18 flights a week from New Delhi and Colombo. For the National Carrier, India has been the extended home market, and potential expansion opportunities are constantly explored to facilitate travellers who seek to experience Sri Lanka and beyond.

North India is a significant growth market for Sri Lanka's tourism, owing to the travellers' interest on the immersive aspects of Sri Lanka, including the vibrant culture, wildlife, exotic getaways and the country's stature as a setting for MICE travel.

SriLankan Airlines has been the market leader, facilitating a large number of travellers into Sri Lanka and to the Airlines' popular destinations such as Melbourne, Singapore, London, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Seychelles. The first flight departs New Delhi at 0515 hours to arrive in Colombo at 0845 hours. The second flight arrives in Colombo at 2220 hours, offering connections to Melbourne, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.

The third frequency departs from New Delhi at 2330 hours on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday to arrive in Colombo at 0300 hours the following day, offering onward connectivity to Melbourne, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jakarta and Gan Island.

The Airlines' connections to Melbourne has made it a popular choice of travel among travellers. SriLankan Airlines has facilitated the largest source market to Melbourne - the Punjab region, through collaborations with domestic carriers, thereby offering Australian travellers access to popular tier-2 cities such as Chandigarh and Amritsar.

It operates out of a range of premier destinations in India such as Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Tiruchirappalli, Trivandrum, Cochin, Madurai, Kolkata and Coimbatore with seasonal flights to/from Bodh Gaya and Varanasi. Upon induction as a oneworld member, the Airline had the privilege of adding Tiruchirappalli to the alliance's global route map.
